Wouldn't Take Nothin' for My Journey

I looked out the window this morning, and this is what "Spring" had for Salt Lakers. Yep. That's my backyard covered in snow.

At first I thought of the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' song: "June Bride, Reprise."

LIZA, SARAH & DORCAS
March comes in like a lion, what else?
Still the snow never melts.

LIZA & ALICE
April showers will come, so they say.

LIZA
But they don't, and it's May
.

Then I could just hear my cousin saying, "That's why I moved back to Florida."

After that, I took another moment, stared at the mountains, breathed in the cold wet air, and I thought to the myself, "Well, Sara Lyn, I'll always wish you were here. But I wouldn't trade these grand peaks of the North or the red rock of the South, if it snowed until August, and I never saw the ocean again."

Thanks, Beck. We had a BEAUTIFUL day today in the 70's! Perfect, perfect weather. And it didn't snow. And I'm in love with FL. And if I never see snow again, it will be too soon. :) Isn't that how the saying goes? But I'm glad you enjoy it. After all, you're living there and I'm not. But I miss you anyway!!! I hope it helped your day go better. (Although I can't imagine how it would.) :) Love you.

I miss the mountains--the Rockies and the Appalachians. Reminds me of a Girls Camp song:
I love the mountains. I love the rolling hills. I love the fountains. I love the daffodils. I love the fireside, When all the lights are low. (chorus)

I love the Rockies. I love the lakes and plains. I love the desert. I love the falling rains. I love the redwood firs, The golden eagle and all the birds. (chorus)

Yep! I love it all! But I think it's my fall colors which sell me in the end. So glad I knew where to find them in Utah...the mountains!!!

Our spring is coming along so lovely here. All of the teeny green buds coming out. They're so cute and awe-inspiring. And the daffodils EVERYWHERE! And thanks for the 7 Brides reference, I sing that reprise all the time. :-)

Sara Lyn-I am not especially fond of snow. I am, however, especially fond of the mountains. I'm willing put up with one to enjoy the other. Kind of like with raisinetes: you don't get any chocolate if you don't eat the nasty raisin. That's a compromise I'm perfectly willing to make.

Heidi-Oh, the Appalachians! Yea verily! I would that my family were all living there on the Blue Ridge or in the Smokies.

Also, you are lucky to have some kind of spring. That's something Salt Lake has never been able to make up its mind about. There's a winter and there's a summer, but there isn't much of a Fall and Spring.

Becky, you will yet convince me of the grandeur of Utah. Yet, if it snowed until August, that would might be too much. :)

Beck - That's why I don't eat Raisenets. Just chocolate for me. :)

Amen Becky. Let it snow. Then let me get outside and dig.

(bytheway, my word verification is: dettlefu. I think I like it, that's my new philosophy.)

Seth-If it makes you feel any better, it took me a VERY LONG time to adjust to perma-winter conditions in Utah. In fact, I would say it's only been in the last two years, that I've come to accept the winter as one of Utah's miserable charms. Don't despair.

Sara Lyn-No Raisenets? You are a brilliant, but silly, silly woman.

Kira-I'm glad somebody is on my side. Oh, and I can't wait to begin planting a little garden this year. I'm planing on tomatoes and squash. It'll be awesome to make my roommates some good 'ole Southern fried green tomatoes.
